Determining the Hostid for Licensing

$
0
0

Note: For instructions specific to the PADS Flow software, please refer to How to verify and install/fix hardware key driver problems with PADS.

The term "hostid" simply refers to a number we can use for licensing. This can be an Ethernet address, hardware key (dongle) ID or a Unix system hostid. The number we use for hostid is synonymous with "server ID". Therefore, the number is the same number used for Floating, Mobile Compute and nodelocked licenses. The hostid is somewhat platform dependent, however.

Using the licensing utility 'lmutil lmhostid' is the best way to determine the hostid for licensing. The lmutil utility is available for download here for Windows and here for Linux.

For the Ethernet address, on Windows or Linux, run:

     lmutil lmhostid -ether

If more than one ID is returned, choose the first one to use as your hostid.

For the Hardware Key (dongle) ID, on Windows run:

     lmutil lmhostid -flexid

Note: Hardware Keys (dongles) are not supported on Linux.

You may also download and install the licensing software from SupportNet to access to all the licensing utilities (requires SupportNet login). Lmutil can be found in C:\MentorGraphics\Licensing on Windows and <path>/bin on Unix. However, when access to the licensing software is not available, you can use system commands to get the hostid.

Host IDs/ MAC Address for Windows

If you are on a Windows workstation, you can obtain the Host ID by issuing the following command at a cmd shell prompt like so:

  C:\> ipconfig -all
(The C refers to your main directory. If you are on a network, another letter may indicate your main directory. Just enter ipconfig -all after the  :\>)

On XP you can open a cmd shell using Start>Run, typing cmd and clicking "OK". On Vista, type cmd in the Start>Search field and press Enter. On Windows 7, type cmd in the Start>Search prgrams or files field and press Enter. Look for the Physical Address in the Ethernet Adapter section of the information returned (your information may vary):

  Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
   DNS Suffix. . . . . . :   domain.com
   Description . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/100
   Physical Address. . . : 00-C0-A8-F1-79-8F This returned value is the Host ID
   DHCP   Enabled. . . . . : Yes
   Autoconf Enabled. . . : Yes
   IP Address. . . . .   . : 141.11.11.150
   Subnet Mask . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

The Host ID is the Physical Address, without dashes (e.g. 00C0A8F1798F)

Hardware Key (Dongle)

If you're using a dongle, you'll need to run Lmtools.exe (usually from Start > Programs > Mentor Graphics Licensing or C:\MentorGraphics\Licensing) or use the command 'lmutil lmhostid -flexid' to get the dongle id.

You can often read the hostid from the side of the dongle itself but it's better to verify it on the system if possible.

C:\MentorGraphics\Licensing\lmutil lmhostid -flexid

  lmutil - Copyright (c) 1989-2013 Flexera Software LLC. All Rights Reserved.

  The FLEXnet host ID of this machine is "FLEXID=9-24558979" This returned value is the Host ID

Note: lmutil and LMTOOLS are the only ways to get a dongle hostid.

Host ID for Linux

If you are on an Linux machine, you can obtain the Host ID by issuing the following commands at the prompt like so:

  /sbin/ifconfig

Look for eth0, em1, p2p1, etc..., and the return value that begins with "HWaddr". This is your Ethernet address. For example:

   eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:40:05:16:E5:25

The Host ID is your Ethernet address, without colons (e.g. 00400516E525).

Note: The "hostid" command will not return a number that can be used for licensing.

Host ID for Solaris

If you are on a Solaris workstation, you can obtain the Host ID by issuing the hostid shell command at the prompt like so:

  $ /bin/hostid
   80c80cc9 This returned value is the Host ID

Host ID for HP-UX

If you are on an HP workstation running HP-UX, you can obtain the Host ID by issuing the following shell commands at the prompt like so:

  $ /usr/bin/uname -i | awk '{printf "%x\n",$1}'

  77476c80 This returned value is the Host ID

Host ID for AIX

If you are on an IBM workstation running AIX, you can obtain the Host ID by issuing the following shell commands at the prompt like so:

$ uname -a

AIX hostname 3 5 000745FF4C00

745FF4C Remove the leading and trailing zeros from the 12-digit number returned. This is the Host ID

Calibre nmLVS with custom plate capacitance. How to ignore cap in schematic?

$

Hello! I'm a newbie to Calibre nmLVS. In the layout of my cell, I made a custom plate capacitance with 2 metal layers. This capacitance is between an internal node (b) and the output pin (out). In my schematic, I put a "cap" from analogLib to represent this capacitance, but when I run LVS it fails (because it sees the cap in the source, but not a corresponding instance in layout).

Do you know how I can have a positive check with LVS? I tried by changing "cap" to "pcapacitor" hoping that LVS would ignore that, but I have the same error.

Thank you very much!

Why the print region text coming in 2014 VeSys 2.0 when am converting PDF?

Hi,

We have created border in symbol. There we are using print region option to convert PDF or to print the harness page by page. In this print region text enabling when am trying to convert PDF file in 2014 vesys 2.0. I didn't see this in 2012 vesys. Is there any possibilities to remove the text without removing print region.

Find the below PDF image converted using print region option.

I am trying to generate a paractics view in cadence via calibre view. During back annotation calibre generate error: the "name of library" can not be found.

i am running PEX for the first time.

in calibreview window:

  1. paracitics extraction results looks fine. LVS is clear.
  2. schematic and output library has same name.
  3. I added the path of callmap file of PDK.

is there any other thing i am missing: @rick_sedlak

Hi all,

1. I was trying to create user name and password  for VeSys, on my laptop so I went to Tools -> Edit user.

2. Then I clicked on  new and entered system1 as user name and password (“single signon”) kept default as we can not change it .

3. Then , I had checked in the Designer and Librarian boxes but not Administrator box.

4. Further,  I clicked on Ok and closed the design.

5. After all of the above steps, when I am trying to reopen the tool with the provided credientials, it shows the error message as mentioned below:

6. I am not able to open the tool at all. Please help me in unlocking the design. Expecting your reply asap.

Hi All,

I have tried out the example of key binding example, but I'm trying to bind those function which is not listing in the menu like place/route/draw mode and even hover snap.

Anyone please help to enlighten me?

Here are the examples of the key binding I'm using.

BindMenu = 0

BindAccelerator = 1

BindCommand = 1

Scripting.AddTypeLibrary("MGCSDD.KeyBindings")

Dim keyBindTables

Set keyBindTables = Gui.Bindings("Document")

keyBindTables.AddKeyBinding "Tab", "Edit->CircuitMoveCopy", BindMenu, BindAccelerator

keyBindTables.AddKeyBinding "Alt+G", "Place->Group", BindMenu, BindAccelerator

What OS are you running?  We have had people ask to support Linux in AATK and I am not opposed to it, in fact the majority of the script should work in Linux.  We have issues with some of the menus and forms where we took advantage of some Windows only DLL's.  We also have those script that talk directly to Microsoft Excel or call other windows programs.

Just a poll to see what OS your sepnding the most time supporting with Xpediton Enterprise Automation.

Expedition 7.9.5 to VX1.1 update 8

We are going to upgrade from Expedition 7.9.5 to VX1.1 update 8. What would be my biggest concerns in doing this migration?

should I copy my library so I have the capability of using both versions if needed?

Will it re-configure my original WDIR?

can I install it on a test laptop to test it out, with out the installation reconfiguring my original setups.

Is there a document that will give me a good over view of what I'm getting into before doing any installations of the software?

I'm reading the release notes now to help me with the installation.

Can I go directly from Expedition7.9.5 to VX1.1 update 8?

Thanks for your help.

"Allow Cell Overhang" not available for Mechanical Cells?

$

I've recently added a "light pipe" mechanical cell to our library. I would have preferred to create it as a package cell, so it could be placed in schematic, and annotated to the PCB, but alas, the age-old problem of "if it doesn't have a pin, it's not a part". Since this part only requires NPT holes, I can't make it a package cell, so I created it as a Mechanical cell. Now, when I place it the design, it will not allow me to overhang the board edge, and unless they've hidden it in some obscure place, Mechanical cells do not seem to have the "allow cell overhang" check box available. So what's a person supposed to do when they have a mechanical part that is supposed to overhang the board edge by design, but the tool doesn't seem to support that?

Thanks,

Tom D.

nmLVS/PEX: "NO LVS PUSH DEVICES" warning?

$

Hi all! I hope I'm the right place to ask this question. Whenever I do an LVS/PEX I get the following warning in the "Extraction Results" section:

"WARNING: Cannot enable LVS PUSH DEVICES because pin location information was requested"

I'm clueless about what this means as I haven't been able to find any information on this type of error in the documentation. Even though it seems it can be ignored, I REALLY would like to understand what is going on here and how to get rid of this message, if possible at all.

Thanks for any help!

Cheers,

Jorge.

PEX: How does "REDUCE ANALOG" combine "Reduce TICER" and "Reduce CC"?

$

Hi all! I'm trying to reduce the size of the extracted R-C-Cc netlist for critical blocks in my design (1GSa/s ADC). I have noticed that using the "REDUCE ANALOG" option provides better reduction than "Reduce TICER", but I don't really understand how this reduction method works and how to use it properly. The documentation says that it combines the "Reduce TICER" and "Reduce CC" methods, but it does not give details on how it does it.

In particular, I would like to know the relationship (if any) between the parameters DELAY_ERROR and NOISE_ERROR for "REDUCE ANALOG" and the parameters for TICER and CC reductions ("frequency"; "threshold", "percent", etc). I understand the meaning and effect of the latter when using "Reduce TICER" and "Reduce CC" methods separately, but it is unclear to me how to select the former (i.e. DELAY_ERROR and NOISE_ERROR) when using "REDUCE ANALOG".

I would be grateful if someone could please give me further insight on how to appropriately set the parameters for "REDUCE ANALOG".

Thanks in advance,

Jorge.

Connector table shown below, is it possible to customize the table, i.e. change the column title and have customer specific data in one of the columns?

Also Any suggestions on how we add rows and how do we customize the contents of the column?

Script to extract design rules from Pads Layout

$

Before I write this myself, I am looking to see if anyone has a script that will sort the ascii rules output file into something more readable.  I set up extensive rules for my designs and because of the hierarchical nature of Rules, it can sometimes be difficult to keep track of everything, particularly because many of our control board are heavy into motor control and I find I change widths in the rules for various nets on the fly.  It would also be handy to review the rules of a design that is coming up for eco changes prior to starting. After exporting the rules set  the ascii file for my current design has 4451 lines.  (Just a blank startup has 960 lines) What I would like is the default rules table, assigned routing layers and vias for reference and then just a list of nets, classes and what value deviates from the default.  For example, if the only difference between my standard power nets and my 24V net is the spacing, that is all I want to see under the 24V listing.

How to add Image in Vesys 2.0

$

Hi,

     As we are doing migration from Vesys classic to Vesys 2.0, we need to place the image in 2.0 drawing. But if we add the image in one drawing through add image option, it is not visible in another computer as it is called from local drive. We want to sent this file to another location customer so so it should be visible one.

Image added in vesys 2.0 in Computer 1

After importing this file into another Computer 2

Is there any other option to show image? Give your idea belongs to this if anybody know.!

Manoj
