Does xSD replace Fablink

$

We have products with multiple boards in them and currently we use Fablink to combine these into a single panel for fabrication.

Does xSD replace this method?

As a limitation with our current method is that the fablink panel only contains dumb data of the individual pcbs and we cannot get a single part list from it for the whole panel.

Think with xSD this would enable us to get a single part list of the whole design.

Any thoughts, tips and hints from current xSD users about how useful this tool is would be welcome.

Pointing Xpedition projects to .IPL files not in Mentor Project/Program Paths

Hi,

We revision control a lot of our files and as such we want to revision control our IPL setup file for the partlister.  We want to know if there is a way to point to IPL files NOT in the mentor paths.  We know the part lister finds the IPL files if they are in the project folder or the template folder under SDD_HOME.  Is there another way to have all of our projects default to the same IPL files on a server?

Integrated flow parts creation when Access Database already created

$

I am building my first libraries for my first Pads design. I chose to with integrated flow because this is direction that Mentor seems to be taking Pads in the future. I bypassed netlist flow in its entirety since I don't need two ways to do things.

I have created a central library in which I have created my symbols and decals. I have created an Access database in which I have created a couple dozen tables with several hundred parts. This was not as bad as it sounds as I imported parts from our company PDM system so that part currently in our system are in my xDx databook. I added fields for symbol, decal, value, part number, part name, and part label. I configured the xDx Databook to map parametric data appropriately for our design process.all of this seemed pretty straight forward as I had done a similar process at a previous company using Orcad CIS and Allegro.

Then I went through each symbol and and directly assigned pin number in the symbol library. This was tedious, but it is complete now.. I am able to import the parametric data from the databook into the schematic ant it all looks good until run packager. Then I get an error such as:

There is no Part Number: 5031821852 in the Parts
DataBase for symbols with Part Name: USDNORM8CKTE and Part Label: 5031821852.
[Please add the Part Number to the PDB either directly
or by having the project file point to a PDB that contains it.]

I get an error specific to every part in my databook. I read a previous post that talks about using migrator and the library tools to get from existing parts to a new access database. I need to go the other direction. I need to go from database to parts library. Is there a way to do this without manually creating hundreds of parts in the xDM library tool?

I assumed that individual parts were not needed in the central library as they were fully defined in the access database. I went back to the PADSVX_ODA_Starter_Libraries aand I found that they do have parts defined in the CL and in the DataBook database. What is the purpose of having parts defined in both places?

Thanks, Russ Troxel

Integrated flow: packager errors/warnings

$

I have been creating parts in the central library to correct the missing parts error from that packager that I asked about n a previous question topic. ( Integrated flow parts creation when Access Database already created ). I have created about one half of the parts in my design and I have exchanged an error for about 6 warnings on each part. An exacmple of one error on one part is:

Visit message location WARNING: Block Top Level!Processor, Page 1, Symbol $1I4585:

Symbol / PartsDB property mismatch:
Resolved PartNumber = ERJ-2GE0R00X

Symbol Property: Part Label = 0.0R
PartsDB Property: Part Label =

The property value on this symbol has not been changed.
Use the 'Update PDB Properties on symbol' option on the Packager menu

or use Device Replace to change the schematic symbol in order to
update the schematic to the PartsDB value as limited by the precision

specified in the Notation Settings dialog. Be sure that the
precision specified in the Notation Settings dialog is sufficient to

define the value exactly or this warning will continue.

I found previous topics concerning these warnings that say I needed to 'uncheck' the "Update PDB Properties On Symbol" selection on the packager dialog, and verify the check box for "place property in schematic when Packager or Place Device is used" is unchecked. It is not possible to 'uncheck' Part Number, Part Label, or Part Name in this dialog so I did not make a change here.

Packer reports "The following properties were checked off in the Property Definition Editor:
"Geometry.Height"
"Part Label"
"Part Number"
"Value"
"Part Name"" I assume that Geometry.Height and Value have no affect on these warnings.

I have re-run the packager (several times) and receive 797 warnings. My general rule is that warnings are "bad", and I need to eliminate them by determining and correcting the underlying cause. I still have 97 parts to create in my CL, but as it could be due to an wrror in my part creation process, I want to understand it now before I continue and propagate an unknown error.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Russ Troxel

But, I can import PartQuest information by xDM Library Tools.

Furthermore, import_partQuest_Parts menu goes out in netlist-flow, but I don't move because it isn't PADS.

Hi all,

I am trying to get PartQuest to work with VX1.1 on a windows platform, with DX front end.  I have followed al the instructions in the PartQuest_Workshop.pdf file and everything worked until the pint where it says
to right click on the *.pqz file to extract the component information.  When I right click, I get nothing.  No notices, no tools to run etc.

I am excited to see if PartQuest can help me out.  Please let me know what I am doing wrong.

I just downloaded and installed the new release (64-bit version).

DX designer always crashes. I created a new project, then I open it, and if I click on the page (or select a menu choiche or another operation) the program crashes.

This happens on two PCs. Windows 7 64 bit, 8GB RAM.

How it is possible? Never happened before.

Symbol cleanup

Hello,

I am using Xpedition Enterprise X-ENTP VX.1.1, when creating a new symbol from “Generate symbol from pinlist”,  I was able to utilize Preferences feature to get the symbol built per my settings. However, it does not have settings for the followings.  It is more of symbol cleanup, if you have any scripts that would work similarly, would you please provide or advise if there are alternatives that I can use?

Thank you,

Tran

Hi,

I am currently using DxDesigner Vx1.1 for schematic but my layouter is still working on the previous version using the 7.9.5 release.

Currently when i package the schematic, the layouter is not able to use the file since it is done in a newer version.

So is there any way for me to downgrade the file in order to make it usable for the layout?

Thanks

In 2015.1 1606 ,

Custom Plugin Table is generated , But if we change Wire / Connector Object properties

it is not immediately reflected in Capital

But if I use "Update Border" I can see those changes in Plugin Table

What could be the reason for this.

I am currently upgrading my Java to the latest Version , also my compiler to latest version and trying a recompile

If there is ready made answer , pl give me a shout

Then I tried with the main program, and there too I got another minidump.

Has anyone installed the new version with split documentation successfully and is there any caveta that I have to take care of?

Automatically transfer decal from Land Pattern Creator to integrated central library

How to automatically transfer part from Land Pattern Creator to integrated central library in PADS Standard Plus? I try PADS Standard Plus > Data and Library Management > xDM Land Patterns >Calculate > PTH Calculator >Find and select a land pattern >Wizard and select Cad Tool=PADS Layout, Library directory=C:\PADS_Stnd_Plus_Eval\PADSVX.1.1\Libs\CorporateDemo_CentralLibrary and Library Name=CorporateDemo_CentralLibrary.  Click "Create", it says "added successfully into library". But I can't see it in central library although click View>Refresh and search it with Find in xDM Library Tools.  Doesn't this automatic transfer function work in integrated flow of PADS? PADS Professional does already have this ability.

The number of licenses concentrated in xDM can't be monitored by flex license management.

Please tell the taking technique of Log-printout of the total number of open-sessions(xDM Library Capacity user Op SW) in xDM Library Server Administration tool.

In addition also, the total number of licenses of #3308,#1228,#102116.

Generating Component Placement List (CPL) file (using scripts?)

$

Hi everyone!

Most of our PCB-s are assembled by automated pick and place machines. Because of this we need to generate a CPL file very often. For this we use a very obsolete and inconvenient method where you have to modify a lot of thing by hand to get the final result. We didn't have problems with is yet, but I'd prefer a more productive way to generate such a file (txt, csv, excel.... ). My problem is I can't find a way to do this in expedition. If there is a way to generate these files please tell me how could I manage this.

However I found one way to do this, and it is scripting. Well I'm not much of a programmer but I've tried to use the help's: Exercise 6 (Generating a component CSV file). I copy-pasted it to a text editor and wanted to use it (first I made the via counting script which worked fine), but the component CSV script had problems with the licensing phase, I've found out that the function is not defined in the script and I had to copy it from the via counter script. But now it complains about the WriteHeaders subroutine which is also not defined so the complain is correct, but I couldn't find this function anywhere, so I cant put it in the script. I guess the same would happen with WriteComponents... etc... functions, because none of the is defined in the script. Although help says the following: ''Use the scripting editor of your choice to enter the script described (including the license server function) and save the script as ComponentCVS.vbs.'' etc... This happened, and every other thing help wrote. But according to my programming knowledge if a function is not defined it wont work. Even if there's another way to generate the CPL file, I'd like to get this script working to, because it would be grate for unique export options.

Here's a picture about the issue:

XPCB script error.JPG

I've attached the script too.

Thanks for the help!

Best regards!
